About the artist
A self trained artist, Yinka who hails from Ila Oragun became an artist by providence as he never aspired to be one. His encounter with Ogoyemi Awani in Iseyin changed the trend of his incursion into art. It was Ogoyemi Awani who introduced Yinka into painting which he later mastered.
He started Genesis Art Gallery in 1990 in Ila Orangun as a Craft Shop which later relocated to Osogbo in 1997 and officially opened at Station Road on September, 29, 2000.
The artist was manager, Abalaiye Arts Gallery and Cultural Troupe, Osogbo in 1993 and Member, Ademola Onibonokuta Cultural Troupe, Osogbo. He is a Member, Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria, Nigeria Association of Visual Artists (NAVA), Confederation of Professional Artists (COPA) and Association of Creative Minds.
An outstanding painter, print maker, furniture carpenter and phenomenal sculptor, Yinka Fabayo is a major stakeholder in the Osogbo Art scene and is renowned for his aesthetic sculptural works.
Yinka became a student at the Oyo (now Osun) State College of Education, Ila Orangun where Dr. Akintonde introduced him to sculpture while Baba Areo introduced him to graphics. He had practical workshop training at Dr. Akintunde Art Studio in Ila Orangun. He there after proceeded to South Essex College of Arts and Technology, South End UK and successfully completed a course in contemporary Oil Painting.
He represented Ila Local Government in Art Exhibitions as well as Osun State in all the Joint and International Trade Fairs since 1992. He has participated in over 38 Solo and group art exhibitions in Nigeria, Ghana, Brazil, Equatorial Guinea, Germany and the United Kingdom.
