About the artist
Ajiboye Olugbenga Ayodeji is known in the art circle as Gbenga Ajiboye and hails from Oke-Opin in Kwara State.
Gbenga’s works are almost brightly coloured, sophisticated, bold and refreshingly experimental and replete with scintillating decorative patterns. At some other times, a toned down almost grayish canvas depicting sombre mood of his figures.
Equally remarkable is that most of Gbenga’s works comes with Yoruba subtitles, thereby forcing an art historical and analytical engagement.
Education
He had his early education at Government Secondary School, Omu-Aran, Kwara State. He worked as a visualiser/illustrator in a printing company after his High School Education.
In 1989 he got admitted into Obafemi Awolowo University where he bagged a Bachelors of Arts degree with a second class degree(upper division) in painting.
Exhibitions
Ajiboye first Solo Exhibition was at Wogerum Hall, Johannesburg, South Africa in 1995. In 1996, he had a joint exhibition titled Genesis at the National Museum, Onikan, Lagos.
He has been involved in several private shows, salons and exhibition.
